Our story

A San Jose landmark, family-run from the start

The Eatery lives in the historic Lenhart building, put up in the early 1900s across from Old San Jose City Hall. Out back is a European-style courtyard — brick patio, hanging flowers, waterfalls — with outdoor seating for two hundred on a sunny afternoon.

Barbara learned from her father, a chef at Hollywood's famous Brown Derby, and his secret recipes are still behind our counter. Michael's family brings culinary traditions from a century of European cooking. Between them, the sandwich formula has been refined for more than twenty years — and they still refuse to cut corners.

Look around while you eat: the dining room doubles as a gallery for Barbara's original oil paintings.
